La franchise initiée par le génial Frédéric Raynal en 1992 avait connu une période très sombre avec la sortie du dernier titre en 2008. Un titre hybride, entre deux chaises, pétri d'incohérences de game-design et de finitions mais qui charmait par son emballage impressionnant.
On comprend donc que cet opus, initialement prévu comme un reboot de la série n'ait convaincu ni le public ni la critique. En dépit d'une bande-son exceptionnelle et d'un principe "série télévisée" assez original, Alone in the Dark avait encore du chemin à faire pour arriver aux chevilles de son ainé.
Mais Atari tient bon, puisqu'un nouvel épisode sortira très bientôt sur Steam, le 8 juin exactement (c'est à dire demain) et proposera encore une fois une nouvelle approche. Fini Central Park et l'aventure solo, Illumination misera sur le co-op à la Left 4 Dead et Resident Evil et plongera cette fois notre Edward Carnby national dans les profondeurs de l'étrange ville de Lorwich où il croisera tout un tas de monstres on ne peut plus répugnants.
On pourra s'étonner dès le départ d'une telle orientation pour un jeu qui traduit littéralement signifie Seul dans les Ténèbres, mais bon, après tout, pourquoi pas. Reste maintenant à savoir si le jeu aura su corriger les défauts handicapants de son prédécesseur parce que Alone in the Dark, c'est quand même une de nos fiertés nationales. Être le papa du genre survival-horreur, ce n'est pas rien.

... et ce trailer ne donne pas particulièrement envie franchement (pas plus qu'il ne semble s'inscrire dans l'héritage de la saga)

On espère tout comme vous qu'ils reviennent à une formule plus classique et misant davantage sur l'ambiance, mais le trailer ne semble pas aller dans ce sens malheureusement.

Le quatrième, New Nightmare, m'a laissé un tel bon souvenir grâce à son ambiance extraordinaire, sa musique là aussi géniale, et cette narration très prenante, sur cette île étrange (la partie où l'on s'enfonce dans les profondeurs de l'île était vraiment extra)
J'aurais tant aimé qu'ils restent dans cette veine... Surtout à l'heure où Resident Evil a quasi abandonné ça au profit de l'actionner
